Summary
Arleen Sorkin has passed away. The inspiration for and original voice of Harley Quinn, is best known for her performance in Batman: The Animated Series and for her long stint on Days of Our Lives. Sorkin played Calliope Jones on the NBC soap opera from 1984-90, before returning several times up to 2010.
As verified by THR, Sorkin died on Thursday after health issues saw her acting work cease in 2004, with a final appearance in Frasier’s finale, though her voice work continued up to 2011. She is survived by her husband Christopher Lloyd (producer of Frasier and co-creator of Modern Family) and their two sons, Eli and Owen. Her death prompted tributes from actors and directors who had worked with her, including Mark Hamill, James Gunn, Tara Strong, and Jim Cummings:
Tara Strong, who also voiced Harley Quinn in other projects, offered her tribute to Sorkin as “the inspiration & the heart & soul of this iconic character.” Her assessment isn’t wrong.
