Top TV producer Ryan Murphy is launching the Ryan Murphy Productions Assistance Fund “to support the exceptional casts and committed crews” of the company’s shows who have been impacted by the ongoing writers and actors strikes. The fund is starting with $500,000.
“Every story we’ve woven, each character brought to life, and every set constructed carry with them an inimitable thread of collaboration,” Murphy wrote in an Instagram post announcing the initiative. “As my colleagues face the challenges brought forth by the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the imperative to support each other is even more pronounced.”
This is not the first strike-related donation by Murphy, one of the most prolific and highly paid showrunners in the business, who is poised to sign a deal with Disney after the WGA strike following a stint at Netflix. Back in May, following the start of the writers work stoppage, Murphy was among top showrunners who collectively contributed $1.7 million to the Entertainment Community Fund.
“Together, we will navigate through this chapter, and before long, we’ll once again create, inspire, and innovate within the industry we love,” Murphy wrote today.
Ryan Murphy Prods. drew attention over the summer when a couple of its New York-based shows remained in production deep into the writers strike.
