Ahead of Donald Trump‘s potential second presidential term, his wife, former First Lady Melania Trump, has secretly renegotiated her prenup in case she gets dragged into Trump’s legal issues.

On Thursday (September 28), Page Six first reported that sources told them of Melania Trump, 53, “quietly” renegotiating her prenuptial agreement with Donald Trump, 77, ahead of him potentially serving as president for a second time.
According to the news site, a source told them spoke about the couple’s agreement, which has been in place since they got married in 2005. The source said, “Over the last year, Melania and her team have been quietly negotiating a new ‘post-nup’ agreement between herself and Donald Trump. This is at least the third time Melania has renegotiated the terms of her marital agreement.”

Additionally, according to the source, the former First Lady renegotiating her marital agreement with her husband is not a sign of her preparing to leave him anytime soon. Instead, the source says she plans to stick by her husband amid all of his legal issues and stacks of indictments (four within the last six months).
The source told Page Six, “This agreement was necessary because of the current legal battles … [Donald] has suffered.” As mentioned, Trump has faced several indictments, and in one of his cases, he could potentially be ordered to shell out money in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ $250 million civil case against Trump and his real estate business.
He could be forced to fork over $5 million to E. Jean Carroll, someone whom he was accused of defaming.

The source added, “Melania is most concerned about maintaining and increasing a substantial trust for their [17-year-old] son, Barron. Trump remains very rich but with mounting legal bills and judgments. [The renegotiated prenup would] provide a more solid future [for Melania and Barron if the couple should ever split].”
However, the source does note, “It’s not that she threatened to leave him. It’s definitely the underlying idea.”
Meanwhile, the outlet reports that a second source has told them that Melania’s renegotiated agreement looks to better provide for her with money and property.
The second source tells them, “I know that she wanted it to provide her with more money, and also — from what I understand — there’s a specific amount at minimum that Barron is supposed to obtain.”
