Fans have been asking for more Moon Knight ever since the Oscar Isaac-led Disney Plus series was first released. Director Mohamed Diab recently spoke about a potential second season from Marvel.

The MCU Disney Plus shows have been one of the most interesting experiments for the franchise, producing multiple controversial and beloved projects. One project that stands as both is the Oscar Isaac-led Moon Knight, a character fans have been hoping to see again since the show’s release. However, according to director Mohamed Diab, Marvel never planned to give it a season 2,

“Marvel had determined it from the first day,” Mohamed Diab explains in an Arabic Marvel interview translated by The Cosmic Circus. “Marvel’s series projects are all six episodes except for special projects like ‘WandaVision.’ The usual format is six episodes. ‘Loki’ is the only series they said will be in two parts from the first day…Marvel’s way is not the usual way where if the project succeeds, I say let’s renew it for a second season. It’s their plan, successful or not, they have a plan.”

While it seems as though Marvel had no plans to ever renew Moon Knight for season 2, it certainly means they had more plans for the character outside of it given the Disney Plus series’ post-credits scene. Marvel may also reverse their decision in time, though for now, it may be best for fans to keep an eye out for Oscar Isaac in other MCU projects.

Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight Season 2 Tease

During his New York Comic-Con panel, Oscar Isaac was asked if he plans to return to the role of Moon Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor couldn’t say much but his response suggests that the character has a future in the MCU.

“All I can say is it is not the last we’ve heard of the system that is Moon Knight.”

Developed by Jeremy Slater, Moon Knight was a six-episode series that aired between March and May of this year on the Disney Plus streaming service. While Marvel has yet to announce a second season for Moon Knight, the show’s final episode left the door open for the character to return somewhere in the MCU.

Focusing on a man with dissociative identity disorder, Moon Knight ended with the reveal that the show’s lead character, Marc Spector, has a third persona that uses the name “Jake Lockley” and works with Khonshu, the Egyptian moon god. His two main identities are unaware of Jake’s existence.

The Disney Plus series stars Oscar Isaac, May Calamawy, Karim El Hakim, F. Murray Abraham, Ethan Hawke, Ann Akinjirin, David Ganly, Khalid Abdalla, Gaspard Ulliel, Antonia Salib, Fernanda Andrade, Rey Lucas, Sofia Danu and Saba Mubarak.

Moon Knight is streaming on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the state of Marvel Studios and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
