Captain America #2 by J Michael Straczynski and Jesus Saiz looks to rewrite the history of the 20th century and more…

In the first issue of the new Captain America series by J Michael Straczynski and Jesus Saiz, we met Travis Lane. A man who had done a deal with the devil, ninety years ago.

That devil was Asmoday, also known as Asmodeus, a prince of demons, or in Judeo-Islamic lore, the king of the earthly spirits and the primary antagonist. from the Book of Tobit. And he has a thing for temples, after being tricked by King Solomon into building gone. In Captain America, he transforms Lane into a young, unaging agent on Earth. And one who had a plan that, ninety years later, was coming together.

And he was recruiting from former AIM agents, among others. May have been competition for Orchis, there…

In today’s Captain America #2, we see more of that plan. and what it was aiming to stop. Because it may be that they didn’t manage to stop it ninety years ago.

This may not be a half-baked hair-brained supervillain scheme but any major supervillain scheme still needs an island base. Or a temple.

And an IT department, to deal with the… prayers, maybe? It doesn’t look good.

And there is always a need for operatives on the ground. But what else has Travis Lane doing for Asmody in the Marvel Universe over that ninety years?

Asmody – and Travis Lane – killed President Kennedy. Martin Luther King Jr. and more. And now, it appears across the decades, that Captain America is next on their list. Did he slip through their fingers the first time?
