Fans got to learn more about rap icon Jay-Z during a rare interview with CBS’ Gayle King which aired this week. The rapper and business mogul spoke about everything the start of his music career, his success, and of course his famous family.
While taking a trip down memory lane of his early rap days, Jay shared how he and his fellow Roc-A-Fella members came up with the diamond hand gesture that’s been used by fans all over the world.
“When we first started, we had this group called Christión,” Jay said while speaking inside the Brooklyn Public Library’s Book of Hov exhibit. “When you sell 10 million, you go diamond. We believed in them so heavy it was like, ‘This group is going to sell 10 million records!’ So we start putting the diamond up for Christión. That’s how it all came about, and then we started playing with it, and then we started doing it at shows, then the whole crowd started doing it.”
While Jay Z has said that the sign is a positive symbol many have often compared it to the Illuminati sign. However, in past interviews, he has denied being part of the group.

While speaking with Ed Lover, in 2010, Jay-Z said at the time, “I got a lot of money. You know when people get a lot of money, they start getting those rumors like Tom Cruise and Will Smith. That’s ridiculous; that’s crazy to me.”
While denying any kind of occult affiliation, Jay-Z added, “I think I need to remind people I’m from Marcy Projects. You can’t get into those prestigious clubs. I can’t even get into the golf club in Palm Springs.”
His iconic wife Beyonce has also shut down Illuminati claims. In her 2016 Beyonce denied her Illuminati affiliation in “Formation,” but she did it in the most Beyonce way.
“Y’all haters corny with that Illuminati mess, Beyoncé sings at the top of her single, “Formation.” Prior to that, she never addressed the popular conspiracy theory that she is Queen of the Illuminati.
Aside from all that, Jay-Z wide-ranging interview talked about more positive things like the success of her renaissance tour and his sweet baby girl Blue Ivy who joined her on stage.
