Stephen King has written a sequel to his classic 1981 story Cujo titled “Rattlesnakes,” and he revealed that it will appear in his upcoming book You Like It Dark. The book is a collection of 12 stories.

King previously talked about “Rattlesnakes,” saying: “I just wrote a long story called ‘Rattlesnakes.’ And it involves, at one part, twins who are only four years old… falling into a rattlesnake pit. And the snakes get ’em. It’s a terrible scene. This novella that I’ve just written, ‘Rattlesnakes’… is actually a sequel to Cujo.”

The description of the story offers more details saying: “Rattlesnakes is a sequel to Cujo, in which a grieving widower travels to Florida to find respite and instead receives an unexpected inheritance, with important attendant connections.”

ClubStephenKing reported the news, which came from the Talking Scared podcast, where King himself revealed the title of the book along with some additional details including that it will be released in 2024. We also have details on four of the other stories in the book:

“Danny Coughlin’s Bad Dream” features a brief, unexpected psychic flash that disrupts the lives of dozens of people, and Danny’s life catastrophically

“The Dreamers”, in which a taciturn Vietnam War veteran responds to a job offer and learns that there are corners of the universe it would be better not to explore

“The Answer Man” asks the question of whether knowing the future is a good or bad thing, and reminds us that a life marked by unbearable tragedy can still be important

The original Cujo story was set in Castle Rock, Maine, and the story centers on a rabid Saint Bernard who torments a mother and her young son. It’ll be interesting to see how this new ‘“Rattlesnakes” story ends up connecting to this.

I saw the original film when I was a kid and it actually gave me a long-time fear of dogs. I’m over the dog fear now, but I was scared of dogs for a very long time. That movie really kinda messed me up with dogs. I’m excited about the sequel, though!

You Like It Darker will be released on May 21, 2024.
