Jonathan Majors is officially out as the MCU’s Kang the Conqueror. A new rumor suggests Marvel Studios has its eyes on an actor from The Walking Dead for Kang.
The internet has been ablaze with speculation about who will be recast as Kang the Conqueror in the MCU following Jonathan Majors’ ousting from the role last month. Speculation has ranged from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Chukwudi Iwuji to Star Wars alum John Boyega (though the latter did confirm he wasn’t interested). However, it seems Marvel Studios is shooting higher for its next Avengers villain, with a new rumor from Hollywood insider DanielRPK suggesting that the studio is eyeing award-winning actor Colman Domingo for the role.
Colman Domingo won an Emmy for his work as Ali on Euphoria back in 2022, but it’s far from the only role he’s known for. Domingo played rather prominent roles in both 2021’s Candyman reboot and Fear The Walking Dead. He’s also recently taken to the world of science fiction as the voice of Unicron in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
It’s clear that Colman Domingo has the range to play Kang the Conqueror for Marvel Studios. The only question is if he’ll take it. There’s no denying there’s a multiverse of pressure on whoever replaces Jonathan Majors in the MCU, not to mention the wave of harassment they’ll likely face. Though given Domingo’s range as an actor, one can only hope this is a rumor that ends up true.
The Future of the Avengers Franchise
Avengers 5 is the first movie in a two-part finale to Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, rounding out Marvel Studios’ Phase 6.
Destin Daniel Cretton recently made the decision to step down from his role as the director of the upcoming Avengers 5. However, Destin Daniel Cretton’s departure is not an exit from the Marvel family but rather a realignment of his directorial commitments as he’s focused on Wonder Woman and Shang-Chi 2.
Secret Wars is a crossover event that will bring together characters from all across the Marvel multiverse, so Iron Man’s experience and leadership will be invaluable to the Avengers. Michael Waldron is set to write the upcoming Marvel Studios film Avengers: Secret Wars, but a director has yet to be announced.
