A Pennsylvania man was injured after a homemade pipe bomb he allegedly built exploded outside his home.
According to Local 21 News, 51-year-old Travis Peachey was arrested last Saturday following the blast in Salisbury Township. Authorities said the investigation began after Pennsylvania State Police learned that Peachey had gone to the hospital with injuries consistent with a bomb explosion.
Troopers later determined that the explosive device had detonated outside his residence.
Device Allegedly Built for “Entertainment”
Investigators said Peachey admitted he assembled the pipe bomb because he was expecting guests and believed it would serve as entertainment.
Police stated that he initially placed the device on a pile of wood outside a shed in his backyard. However, when he realized his guests were not coming, he reportedly picked up the explosive and returned it to the shed. Authorities said Peachey attempted to disarm the device before it detonated.
The explosion caused injuries to his face and eye. Hospital staff also removed a piece of shrapnel from his head.
Family Inside Home During Blast
According to investigators, Peachey’s wife told authorities she was inside the house with their two children when she heard the explosion.
Officials said the incident placed others at risk.
As a result, Peachey now faces multiple charges, including:
Two counts of endangering the welfare of children
Risking catastrophe
Possession of an explosive
Three counts of attempted aggravated assault
Three counts of recklessly endangering another person
The case remains under review as authorities continue their investigation.
