Gypsy Rose Blanchard-Anderson is detailing some of the abuse she endured from her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, including how she was chained to a bed for two weeks.
In the new Lifetime docuseries, ‘The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard,’ the now 32-year-old detailed how the 2015 murder was not the first time she tried to escape her mother.
In 2011, when she was 19 years old, she ran away from home in the middle of the night, however, she did not get away for long as her Dee Dee eventually found her — and her punishment for escaping was horrendous.
Dee Dee Blanchard Chained Gypsy Rose To Bed For Two Weeks
“When she got me inside the house, she chained me to the bed, she smashed my computer and my cell phone and I was chained for two weeks,” Gypsy said in episode three of the new docuseries.
As you may know, investigators say Gypsy Rose was a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a psychological disorder Dee Dee is believed to have had. Munchausen syndrome by proxy is when a caretaker makes people believe their child is ill to receive attention.
Over the years, Dee Dee claimed Gypsy was not only paralyzed from the waist down, resulting in her needing a wheelchair, but she also claimed Gypsy had several medical disorders such as asthma, epilepsy, vision impairment, and hearing impairment, among many others.
She also convinced doctors to perform surgeries on Gypsy, all of which she did not need.
“I was at her mercy for everything,” Gypsy continued to explain of her mother’s abuse in the new docuseries. “So, to go to the bathroom, for food. As punishment, she would not feed me every day and she would eat whatever she wanted.”
This is not the first time Gypsy Rose detailed the abuse she endured from her mother.
In an interview shown during the 2017 HBO documentary ‘Mommy Dead and Dearest,’ Gypsy Rose said her mother told her she had “asthma, epilepsy, hearing impaired, vision impaired, needed a feeding tube, paralyzed from the waist down, retardation, among other things.”
According to medical records, Dee Dee brought Gypsy Rose to local hospitals over 100 times between 2005 and 2014.
Gypsy Rose Plots To Kill Her Mother
After Gypsy Rose discovered that she was not as sick as her mother had claimed her to be, she wanted out, but Gypsy said that her mom “had convinced a lawyer to draw up some paper that I was incompetent so if I were to go to the police, they would look at these papers [and not believe me].”
Feeling as though she had no other way out, Gypsy and her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, who is currently serving life in prison, plotted to kill Dee Dee Blanchard. Nicholas stabbed Dee Dee to death in her home while Gypsy was in the next room over.
Gypsy Rose pleaded guilty in 2016 to the second-degree murder of her mom and was released on parole last month after serving 85% of her prison sentence.
