A 64-year-old Massachusetts woman, Roxanne Doucette, has been charged with attempting to kill her 73-year-old husband, Paul Doucette, after falling victim to an online scam.

The scammer, posing as Thorsten Kaye, a soap opera star from “The Bold and the Beautiful,” manipulated Roxanne into serving her husband poisoned soup. The couple’s daughter, Nicole Heath, suspected foul play and shared incriminating text message screenshots with the police.

Heath discovered a series of text messages between her mother and the scammer, which suggested Roxanne’s involvement in the poisoning plot. In one message, Roxanne mentioned making a special potion soup for her husband, ensuring he wouldn’t be hungry when he returned. Another message hinted at collecting life insurance. These messages and her husband’s testimony about the soup tasting bitter raised serious concerns as reported by Daily Mail.

Despite the evidence against her, Roxanne vehemently denies attempting to harm her husband. In a tearful interview, she claimed that the soup was old and that she would never try to kill anyone. She expressed her love for her husband and her longing for him to return home. Roxanne’s defense maintains that she was manipulated by the scammer and never intended to harm her husband.

‘She stated that she thought she was talking to a star, and that she had always wanted to meet a star,” said the police report.

‘she said that she was afraid to be alone. She alleged that she would never harm him in any way, and that she loves him very, very much’

Investigations revealed that Paul Doucette had recently fallen victim to a separate scam, losing approximately $8,000. This financial stress may have contributed to the couple’s vulnerability and Roxanne’s susceptibility to the online scammer’s manipulation. Roxanne’s claims of feeling lonely and wanting to meet a star further highlight her emotional vulnerability.

Doucette was arraigned in Ayer District Court and released on her own recognizance. However, she was ordered to stay 100 yards away from her husband, undergo a mental health evaluation, and wear a GPS monitor. The case is still under investigation. In a surprising turn of events, Roxanne violated the no-contact order by sending her husband a handwritten letter through a neighbor, resulting in her arrest. She now faces additional charges of resisting arrest and assaulting an officer.
