Daisy Ridley is finally set to return to the galaxy far, far away with a new film starring her character Rey. It seems the actress wants to take the Star Wars universe in a whole new direction with the upcoming project.
Expectations for Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey are low, given the failure of Rise of Skywalker to connect with new and old fans alike. However, fans may not need to worry about Palpatine returning once more, as Ridley revealed Lucasfilm’s intent to take Star Wars in a different direction while continuing to explore the beloved world:
“That was actually quite last minute,” Ridley revealed when speaking of her return as Rey to AlloCiné. “I was actually making my own film last year, and Kathy Kennedy said she wanted to have breakfast. And I thought we were just having breakfast. So there I was, having my breakfast, and she goes ‘Oh, by the way, we might do another one.’ And I’m like ‘Okay…’”
“So I thought about it for a little bit and once I knew what the story was and everything I knew it was something I really wanted to do. I think it’s a really fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world. It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction.”
A different direction may be just what the doctor ordered to keep Star Wars fresh. The most successful properties in the universe, such as Andor and Rogue One, both took unorthodox approaches to the universe. If Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey has any hope of capturing the hearts of fans, it has to recapture the spark of those series.
The future of Star Wars looks brighter than ever

At the event, Kathleen Kennedy announced that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Dave Filoni and James Mangold are all set to direct their own Star Wars movies.
