Disney Parks has released a wonderful video about Lanny Smoot, who is the first Disney Imagineer to be inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.

The video offers information about his incredible career and some of the inventions and projects that he’s worked on over the years. The last part of the video is where things get crazy interesting as Larry introduces a new technology which is a HoloTile floor, an omnidirectional “treadmill” that can support multiple people at once. This is the kind of technology that could lead to a real Star Trek-type holodeck experience. This is so cool!

The video came along with the following note:

Join us as we stop by to congratulate Lanny Smoot, the Disney Research Fellow and Imagineer behind mind-blowing special effects like making Madame Leota float inside the Haunted Mansion and our state-of-the art Star Wars lightsabers, is being inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame!

Lanny is the first Disney Imagineer to receive this prestigious recognition and only the second individual from The Walt Disney Company to be inducted — the first being Walt Disney, honored posthumously for the multiplane camera.

Check out the video below and tell us what you think!
