It’s been revealed that Reacher Season 3 will be based on Lee Child’s book Persuader, which is the seventh novel in the Jack Reacher series. It was also confirmed that Maria Sten (Swamp Thing) will return for the third season and she will be reprising the role of Frances Neagley, alongside Alan Ritchson.

In the story for Season 3, Reacher goes undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe from his past. The full description of the book offers some additional insight saying:

Jack Reacher lives for the moment. Without a home. Without commitment. And with a burning desire to right wrongs—and rewrite his own agonizing past. DEA Susan Duffy is living for the future, knowing that she has made a terrible mistake by putting one of her own female agents into a death trap within a heavily guarded Maine mansion.

Staging a brilliant ruse, Reacher hurtles into the dark heart of a vast criminal enterprise. Trying to rescue an agent whose time is running out, Reacher enters a crime lord’s waterfront fortress. There he will find a world of secrecy and violence—and confront some unfinished business from his own past.

The third season of Reacher is currently shooting in Toronto. The second season of the series has become Amazon’s biggest TV hit of 2023, and it sounds like the installment will put Jack Reacher in a very different setting. During a previous interview with Ritchson, he talked about the direction of the character and story in the next chapter, and Ritchson teased a “new world” for his character. He said:

“I can’t say too much about Season 3, but I will say there’s a lot of classic Reacher stories which are just adventures that he gets sucked into in a big way, and we get to enjoy Reacher in a new world. It may not have anything to do with family, with his past, he’s just living that adventure out and that’s kind of the direction that we’ve gone and it seems to really be working.”

The first season of the series is based on the first novel in the Jack Reacher book series, The Killing Floor. Reacher is “a veteran military police investigator who has just recently entered civilian life. When he arrives in the small town of Margrave, Georgia, he finds a community grappling with its first homicide in 20 years.” Reacher is falsely accused of murder and while he works to prove his innocence, a deep-seated conspiracy begins to emerge.

“Season Two begins when veteran military police investigator Jack Reacher receives a coded message that the members of his former U.S. Army unit, the 110th MP Special Investigations, are being mysteriously and brutally murdered one by one. Pulled from his drifter lifestyle, Reacher reunites with three of his former teammates turned chosen family to investigate, including Frances Neagley; Karla Dixon, a forensic accountant for whom Reacher has long had a soft spot; and fast-talking, switchblade-wielding family man David O’Donnell. Together, they begin to connect the dots in a mystery where the stakes get higher at every turn, and that brings about questions of who has betrayed them—and who will die next. Using his inimitable blend of smarts and size, Reacher will stop at nothing to uncover the truth and protect the members of his unit. If there’s one thing Reacher and his team know for certain, it’s that you do not mess with the Special Investigators. This season, get ready for Reacher and the 110th to hit back hard.”
