A 9-year-old boy from Henderson, Nevada, became an unexpected hero when he handed a bag of drugs to the police, leading to his mother’s arrest. The incident, captured on police body camera footage, not only revealed a disturbing case of drug trafficking but also child endangerment.
According to Nexstar’s KLAS, cops showed up at the mother’s home after she became concerned that her little boy locked himself in the bathroom for over an hour. Once police arrived at the scene, the emotional boy stormed out of the front door explaining to the authorities how he stumbled upon the illicit substances and immediately recognized their nature. He told officers that after he locked himself in the bathroom he reached out to his father using an iPad. “I just saw a couple of bags, pulled it out, and then that’s when I knew what it was,” the child is heard telling police in the video while fighting back tears.
Kendra Long, the boy’s mother, denied any knowledge of the drugs when confronted by the police. However, the evidence against her was compelling. The police determined that the bag contained over 100 grams of methamphetamine, far beyond what could be considered personal use. Furthermore, text messages discovered by prosecutors indicated that Long was involved in drug dealing from her home, even with her son present. Long was arrested for drug trafficking and child abuse.

Following her arrest, Long managed to post $25,000 bail. However, she later violated a family court order and other conditions of her release, which led to further legal consequences. Surprisingly, despite these violations, she received no prison time but was instead sentenced to probation. Unfortunately, she also violated the terms of her probation, leading to her enrollment in an in-patient drug treatment program.
The Impact on the Family:
The young boy, whose identity remains anonymous for his protection, was immediately taken into the custody of his father on the night of his mother’s arrest. Currently, he resides with his father, away from the dangerous environment he was exposed to. It is hoped that this change will provide him with the stability and support he needs during this challenging time.
Seeking Long’s Side of the Story:
Nexstar’s KLAS reached out to an attorney representing Kendra Long to provide her side of the story. Unfortunately, the attorney hung up, leaving many questions unanswered. It is unclear whether Long will have the opportunity to share her perspective on the events that unfolded.
Meanwhile, cops have commended the bravery displayed by the 9-year-old boy in handing over the drugs to the police has undoubtedly saved lives and brought attention to a larger issue.
