A lot of behind-the-scenes drama has gone down at Marvel Studios in recent months regarding the live-action shows that they’ve been developing. They are going to be handling things a lot differently from here on out, but while most of the news was surrounding Echo and Daredevil: Born Again, there’s another show that’s been in development… Ironheart.

It’s been a while since we’ve had any kind of update on the series, but its star Dominique Thorne recently revealed that the project has finished shooting. During an interview with Deadline, the actress said:

“Filming has concluded, indeed. I mean, I can say strap in, get ready. It will be a ride, much like they all are. It is an epic journey, and one that I’m very excited to share.”

Thorne takes on the role of Riri Williams, and we have a first look at her wearing the armor here. The series also stars Manny Montana, Alden Ehrenreich, Shea Couleé, and Zoe Terakes.

The six-episode series was created by Chinaka Hodge, and the story follows Riri Williams, a young engineering genius and the creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. The series will be set after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. I got to see some early footage from the series, and I liked what I saw, but we’ll have to wait and see.

It was previously said that the theme of Ironheart will be “Magic vs Tech,” which is always a fun concept to play with!

Producer Nate Moore has said that he views the Ironheart series as a direct sequel to Wakanda Forever, saying:

“That show is an outgrowth of how much we liked her in this movie and even on the page. So, when we talked with [Dominique Throne] initially, obviously the character had been written to the script and she was the one and only person we talked about for the role. When she said yes and we were down the road with the script, we also started talking with [Ryan Coogler] about what the show could be.

“So, the show is a direct sequel to the movie. And [Riri Williams] is carrying the experiences she had in this movie back home to MIT. And there are some interesting repercussions to her adventures that will set her on a fun course.”

Ironheart was recently removed from Marvel’s release schedule, but a new premiere date should be announced in the near future.
