Episode 23 of Shark Tank India featured a clothing brand, Aastey, before the panel of sharks – Aman Gupta, Vineeta Singh, Anupam Mittal, Namita Thapar, and Peyush Bansal. Jeevika Tyagi and Kanupriya Mundhra, founders of Aastey, presented their pitch for an ask of $96.5K (₹80 lakhs) for 2 percent equity.
As per the founders, Aastey is India’s first sustainable athleisure wear brand for women of all sizes, and all of its garments are created with innovative sustainable fabrics. The founders began their pitch by asking the Sharks about their clothing size. Then, they went on to say that every woman has to face this question regularly. They further said that for a variety of tasks, women need different types and styles of clothing. To deal with this issue, the founders started Aastey in the year 2020.
Aastey brand provides style with comfort. Furthermore, its mission statement on its official website states, “Our mission is to eliminate all existing biases & stereotypes for women while maintaining a positive impact on the environment.”
However, after a lengthy discussion, Aastey’s founders were unable to crack the deal with sharks. Sharks opined that currently Aastey is not yet a profitable business. Moreover, as per their pitch, they have a liability of around $120K (₹1 Crore) and don’t have any funds to maintain the business.
