A Las Vegas pet owner, Makisha Davis, has leveled accusations of animal cruelty against Lucky’s Pet Grooming and Boutique following a tragic incident where her Maltese-Yorkshire terrier mix, Tuffy, was allegedly paralyzed during a grooming session, leading to the dog being euthanized.

Davis recounted her suspicions about the mishandling of her dog at the salon. “I keep wondering what they might have done to my dog. It seems like they might have dropped her or forced her down in a way that caused harm,” she explained to KSTV, believing that Tuffy’s injuries were a result of rough treatment. Tuffy, a four-year-old who had been patronizing the salon for years, reportedly became paralyzed after a visit to the boutique in December. Davis confronted the salon’s staff with a video recording highlighting Tuffy’s condition. “Her legs were completely stiff, with no flexibility at all,” she said in the clip.
When Davis pressed the salon for answers, the response was dismissive and unhelpful: “They claimed I had brought her in that state, which is utterly false.” The situation worsened when a veterinarian diagnosed Tuffy with a ruptured disk, presenting Davis with a daunting decision due to the prohibitive cost of surgery.

Following Tuffy’s euthanasia, Davis reported the incident to animal control. However, the lack of concrete evidence hindered any potential action. A statement from animal control said they could not conclusively determine whether Tuffy was already incapacitated upon arrival at the salon, citing insufficient evidence to prove wrongdoing by the facility.
The incident has surfaced similar complaints from other Lucky’s Pet Grooming and Boutique customers, suggesting a pattern of neglect or abuse. Another pet owner, Margarita Bicana, shared with the outlet that her dog, Turbina, returned from the boutique with a fractured jaw, underscoring a recurring issue of pet injuries under the salon’s care. Determined to prevent further tragedies, Davis spearheaded an awareness campaign to enlighten pet owners about the potential risks of grooming facilities. “There must be accountability, and I’m committed to ensuring no one else endures this kind of loss,” Davis affirmed, signaling a resolve to seek justice and promote better care standards in the pet service industry.
The owner of Lucky’s Pet Groomer has continued to deny all allegations but did not release a statement about both situations.
