Mark Ruffalo Says Marvel Movies Had More “Mystique” Before Streaming

The hype for Marvel movies has kind of died down since The Infinity Saga came to an end. Since then the superhero genre has hit superhero fatigue pretty hard and the last few films to be released have been box-office disappointments. Sure, there’s a lot of hype around Deadpool & Wolverine, but that’s because we’re talking about a Deadpool and Wolverine team-up movie, which is something fans have been wanting to see forever! So, of course, the hype is going to be massive!

Regardless, Marvel has been in a funk, and during a recent interview with GQ, Mark Ruffalo was asked about the studio’s diminishing returns. He explained that he thinks the streaming expansion hurt things and he doesn’t know if Marvel will ever be what it once was. He said:

“I think the expansion into streaming was really exciting, but the thing about Marvel movies is you had to wait three years and that created a mystique. These corrections could be really positive things. Will it be what it was? I don’t know.”

I have no idea if Marvel Studios will be able to fully get its mojo back. It was recently reported that Marvel Studios was going through a “creative retooling” to try and fix the things that are broken. In the end, all they really need to do is tell great quality stories with these characters. Apparently, that’s easier said than done for the studio, which has developed some films with weak scripts, visual effects, and direction. Marvel just needs to stop greenlighting films where the scripts and stories aren’t ready to go.

Do you think Marvel can build itself back up again to be what it once was?
