D.C. punks NØ MAN are preparing to unleash their third album, Glitter and Spit, and today the four-piece are premiering the scathing, unrelentingly heavy title track with AP.
Arriving March 29 via Idoine Recordings, the record is a no-holds-barred criticism of systemic violence, drawing from singer Maha Shami’s own experiences as the daughter of refugees and a recent visit home to Palestine. The result is a collection of furious songs that reach for hope in a time of tumult. In support of its release, the band — rounded out by Matt Michel, Pat Broderick, and Kevin Lamiell — have been playing a handful of shows around the East Coast, including a few more this month and some in May.

“‘Glitter and Spit’ is about not letting people distort your reality to fit their fantasy,” Shami says. “We’ve never been comfortable with the idea of making a music video and really just wanted to make something that felt true to our live shows. Years ago, Joseph Pattisall made one of our favorite videos for our friends in Striking Distance, and we were thrilled when he was up for helping us with ours. Shot in a freezing warehouse with a skeleton crew, it turned out to be a really fun and creative experience.
She continues, “This record is a love letter to resistance. It’s about refusing the many ways colonial logic attempts to make us disappear. As a Palestinian and a woman, my existence alone is enough to offend. Although these songs were written before the current livestreamed catastrophe facing Palestinians, 75 years of military occupation with mass killings, home demolitions, kidnapped children, and stillborn checkpoint babies has provided fuel for the fire as I look for hope in a world gone mad.”
