The Fall Guy director David Leitch is hoping this first film will launch a franchise and he is prepared to start making multiple films that celebrate the work of stunt performers. During an interview with GamseRadar, the filmmaker shared:

“I know I want to go on a journey with these characters for multiple films. I want Lethal Weapon numbers. I love these people so much, and also I love these characters… If I could work with this crew and these actors in this world that Kelly [McCormick – wife and producing partner] and I know so well – yeah, this would be a blast. I hope people want more.”

There are four films in the Lethal Weapon franchise with Mel Gibson trying to get a fifth one off the ground. So, if Leitch gets his way, we could at least see four Fall Guy movies. The first one stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, and it seems the actors would be down for the sequels.

Blunt admited that she hopes the film has “many” sequels on the horizon. But, she does make a point of saying that at the end of the day, it all comes down to whether audiences want more: “We’ll have to see if people love it, you know? I would do many Fall Guys if I could. It was just too much fun.”

The story for the film focuses on a battered and retired stuntman (Gosling), who is pulled back in the stunt world to work on a movie that his ex-girlfriend (Blunt) is directing. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is also in the movie as the star of that movie, and he has gone missing. So, Blunt needs Gosling to help to help rescue the production.

The synopsis reads: “He’s a stuntman, and like everyone in the stunt community, he gets blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows and dropped from the highest of heights, all for our entertainment. And now, fresh off an almost career-ending accident, this working-class hero has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job. What could possibly go right?”

The movie is described as a “new hilarious, hard-driving, all-star apex-action thriller and love letter to action movies and the hard-working and under-appreciated crew of people who make them: The Fall Guy.”

Gosling stars as Colt Seavers, “a battle-scarred stuntman who, having left the business a year earlier to focus on both his physical and mental health, is drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie—being directed by his ex, Jody Moreno, played by Blunt — goes missing.”

While the film’s ruthless producer Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), “maneuvers to keep the disappearance of star Tom Ryder (Taylor-Johnson) a secret from the studio and the media, Colt performs the film’s most outrageous stunts while trying (with limited success) to charm his way back into Jody’s good graces. But as the mystery around the missing star deepens, Colt will find himself ensnared in a sinister, criminal plot that will push him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt.”

When talking about the movie, Leitch said he was excited to make a movie that portrayed the lives of stunt professionals, who risk their lives for very little credit and for our entertainment. “I was a former stunt performer so it’s very, very dear to me.”

The movie also stars Stephanie Hsu, Teresa Palmer and Winston Duke. The Fall Guy is set to hit theaters on March 1, 2024.
