Kristen Stewart has been a fan-favorite choice for various roles in superhero movies in the past, but recent comments seem to suggest the actress has no desire to ever join the MCU.

Speaking during a recent appearance on the “Not Skinny but Not Fat” podcast (via Variety), Stewart explained why she has no desire to appear in any Marvel movie at this point in time.

“I will likely never do a Marvel movie … it sounds like a f—ing nightmare, actually,” Stewart said. She went on to say that, in order to ever do it, “the system would have to change” in terms of how the films are made.

“You would have to put so much money and so much trust into one person … and it doesn’t happen. And so therefore what ends up happening is this algorithmic, weird experience where you can’t feel personal at all about it,” continued Stewart. “So likely not. But maybe the world changes, that’s what I’m saying. How could I tell you no when maybe one day … if Greta Gerwig asked me to do a Marvel movie, then I would do it.”

Stewart has expressed interest in superhero movies previously

Despite her remarks about the MCU, Stewart has expressed some interest in superhero movies in the past, albeit a bit jokingly. In an interview with Variety in 2021, Stewart was asked about a social media campaign to get Stewart to play the role of The Joker. While Stewart loved the “energy” behind the idea, she would rather figure out another role for herself.

“I love the energy behind that,” Stewart said. “It’s really been done so well. I feel like, maybe, we don’t traipse over, but I love that gusto. Let’s figure something else out. I’m totally down to play a freaky, scary person.”
