Here’s an interesting video from Accented Cinema, which explores and explains the fundamental difference between American Godzilla films and Japanese Godzilla films: To sum it up nicely, “American Godzilla is about Godzilla; Japanese Godzilla is about Life.”
There’s more to it than that and this video dives into the differences. The creator of the video also talks about his feelings on the two different versions of the Kaju and the films and his views are pretty close to how I feel about them.
While it’s fun to watch giant monsters battling each other, I do like that Japan’s Godzilla films focus on how Godzilla helps people reflect on real-world catastrophes. Check out the video and let us know what you think!
