Van Hansis, who plays Lucas Jones on General Hospital, expressed his thoughts on a key character’s demise and departure from the show. Adrian Anchondo’s Marco, who was Lucas’ love interest, was killed off recently. He was involved in a storyline centered on obtaining a life-saving medication for Britt’s Huntington’s disease. Putting his life at risk, he went to Wyndemere, where the medicine was being kept by Sidwell and WSB Director Ross Cullum. Although he managed to obtain it, he was later tracked down by Cullum, who confronted him and ultimately stabbed him to death.

In a recent conversation with Soap Opera Digest, Hansis revealed that Anchondo texted on January 2 to inform him about his departure. He received the message upon touching down in Los Angeles for filming, and the news left him feeling “heartbroken.”

“I was heartbroken — and I was really sad for him, obviously, because nobody wants that [kind of news]. I wished he had more time to show different layers of the character because even on soaps, when we’re working so much, a year isn’t a long time, and he’s such a talented actor,” he said.

However, Hansis expressed understanding of the makers’ decision to write off Marco, noting that he was aware they wanted to create a dramatic impact on the ongoing storyline. He also expected a shock-value death around the time Marco moved to Wyndemere.

He stated, “I didn’t know if it was Lucas, I didn’t know if it was Marco, I didn’t know if it was Sidwell, I didn’t know if it was Pascal, but I was like, ‘Someone living in that mansion is not gonna see too many more mornings!’”

Reflecting on Marco’s death scene, Van Hansis said he was highly impressed by Adrian Anchondo’s performance. He praised how he carried the moment powerfully, using only his emotional expression, without any dialogue. He revealed that everyone in the makeup room was hooked on watching that particular death scene. Moreover, he also believed that Anchondo’s powerful performance deserves to be in the Emmy reel next year.
