Zachary Levi has been cast in Free Fall, a new rock-climbing action movie directed by Zöe Bell.

Per Variety, Levi has been tapped to star in Free Fall, which comes from XYZ Films. The movie’s script was written by Sean Finegan and Gregg Maxwell. Production is expected to begin later this year.

What is Free Fall about?

“The film tells the story of a father’s attempt to reconcile with his estranged daughter on a rock-climbing trip that turns deadly as an accident leaves them stranded hundreds of feet in the air,” Variety’s description of the film reads.

Tom Hern and Nua Finau are producing Free Fall, while Navid McIlhargey, Erik Olsen, Finegan, Parker, and Levi serve as executive producers.

Levi is known for playing the adult version of Billy Batson in DC’s Shazam! movies. He also played the titular character in NBC’s Chuck and Fandral in Marvel’s Thor franchise. He’ll next be seen in Harold and the Purple Crayon, which releases in United States theaters this August.

Bell is making her feature film directorial debut with Free Fall. She’s done stunt work on a number of recognizable projects such as Zena: Warrior Princess, Iron Man 3, and Thor: Ragnarok, while she’s also starred in a handful of Quentin Tarantino movies like 2007’s Death Proof, 2015’s The Hateful Eight, 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and more.

“This script is the perfect combo of heartfelt and heart-stopping,” Bell said iof Free Fall. “Between the producing team, the cast and the New Zealand crews, words don’t do justice to how thrilled I am to be bringing this film home.”

Hern and Finau added, “We are stoked to be teaming up with the guys at XYZ again to help bring Zoë Bell’s feature debut to the world. Zoë’s an incredible talent and an iconic Kiwi. The script sets the table not only for her renowned action direction chops, but also plenty of heart and humanity.”

Free Fall does not yet have a release date.
