Zendaya In Grapes Met Gala Dress ‘Understood The Assignment’

The 2024 Met Gala is in full swing as The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City welcomes its star guests this year. The annual fashion event, already welcoming faces including model Gigi Hadid and actress Sarah Jessica Parker, has Zendaya as one of the co-chairs, but talk quickly turned to her dress as soon as she stepped onto the red carpet. Dazzling as she embraced this year’s Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion theme and The Garden of Time dress code, the 27-year-old stunned in a gothic, fairytale-inspired gown with a fishtail finish, dropping jaws with every detail, which included the star posing covered in grapes.

Rocking a Maison Margiela dress inspired by a 1990s Dior creation, Zendaya dropped jaws in her striped, one-shouldered gown, one boasting green and blue fabrics, a trumpeted skirt, plus a flared finish that highlighted her model-like proportions. Flaunting her tiny waist as she posed with fake grapes adorning the rich fabrics, the actress added in ruffled shoulder detailing to accentuate the glam vibe, also donning a bird headdress as she wore her hair tied back.

Flashing hints of her cleavage via a low neckline, Zendaya also drew the eye to her dramatic makeup, sporting a deep, dark red lip stain and thin eyebrows, plus hot pink eyeshadow to compliment her cheek blush. The Challengers star is no stranger to designer looks, having recently embraced method dressing in an array of tennis outfits for her 2024 movie.

“I like to look at fashion as creativity,” she told Live With Kelly and Mark. “Even in press tours, it’s a way to continue the creativity from the film. I like to just create characters. … You get to embody this character for the day, and clothes can do that for you.”

The above photo saw Zendaya joining co-chair Jennifer Lopez, who dazzled in a leaf-inspired, silvery strapless gown paired with cream platform heels and Tiffany & Co. jewelry. This year’s Gala is co-chaired by the duo, plus Chris Hemsworth, Bad Bunny, and Anna Wintour.

Fans seeing the above still of Zendaya were quick to comment. “Finally someone who got it!” one said. Another said that the girlfriend to Tom Holland had “understood the assignment.”

“Never Disappointing, always ate,” a further fan wrote.

Prior to the celebrity arrivals, Galliano reps offered a heads-up over what Zendaya would be wearing.

“For her appearance, John Galliano specially created an haute couture look for co-chair Zendaya composed of a sage lamé and organza bias-cut dress worn over a duchess satin corset,” they said in a statement. “The dress features bands of hand-painted metallic crin, a drape and bow layered from aluminum material and iridescent organza, and a corsage hand-embroidered with natural motifs hand-painted in electric blue and emerald, green.”
