Glen Davis, a former NBA champion, was recently sentenced to 40 months in prison for his involvement in a scheme to defraud the league’s healthcare plan of millions of dollars
As we previously shared, Davis hopped on Instagram Live and responded to his sentence by joking that the jail time would provide a unique opportunity for him to enhance his physical condition. “I’ma be swole, though. I swear to God I’m about to get in so much shape. On God,” Davis said during an Instagram Live video shortly after the sentence. Once his life began to surface on social media, many people were confused as to why he would laugh about a situation like this, but according to the former NBA star, he made those jokes to give himself “hope.”

While speaking on the ‘Higher Learning With Van Lathan And Rachel Lindsay’ podcast, Glen Davis opened up about his social media antics. “That was wrong but at the same time what do you want me to do?” he questioned. “You want me to take a crack pipe and go put it to my mouth, or you want me to start doing meth or go you just use that as a way of just coping because months ago I was damn near close. You think about my career, my life, and all that sh*t I was sending you that all happened. Divorce, death, and being arrested for the first time in your life and being arrested again a month later. I needed help.”
After serving his prison sentence, Davis will be placed on supervised release for a period of three years. As part of this release, he will be required to participate in a financial management class and undergo mandatory drug treatment.
Davis has been instructed to pay $80,000 in restitution. Over 20 individuals have been charged and sentenced for their involvement in the scheme, which included submitting fraudulent medical claims to the NBA Players’ Health and Benefit Welfare Plan, as outlined in the indictment.

During his nine-year NBA career, Davis played for the Boston Celtics’ 2008 championship team, as well as the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Clippers. According to his NBA player height and weight listings, he maintained an average weight of 290 pounds during his time as a professional basketball player.
