From the World of Minor Threats: Barfly #1 flies into comic shops on July 10th, 2024, but you can get hyped for the series now with a new playlist from Patton Oswalt, Jordan Blum, Kyle Starks, and Ryan Browne! This Minor Threats spin-off series is feel-good, coming-of-age series with a punk rock edge written by Kyle Starks (Where Monsters Lie) and illustrated by Ryan Brown (Eight Billion Genies).

The Lower Lair bar is home to all sorts of supervillains, lowlifes, and scumbags… but only one of them has to puke digestive fluids onto his food to eat. $#!%eater, the humanoid mutant fly, is a loser–a lifelong minion who lives to serve his criminal master. But what happens to a henchman when he no longer has anyone left to hench for?

“Barfly is about how music saved the bottom-est of the underworld bottom feeders and made him the un-swattable Lower Lair, uh, barfly that we know and love today,” said Oswalt. “Yeah, the first song is an obvious choice, but each of these gut-blasts of D.I.Y. fury illustrate the rage, exasperation and, yes, sentimentality of the puking punk of Redport. Frank Black’s ‘I Heard Ramona Sing,’ which is about how The Ramones saved him growing up, perfectly closes out our playlist.”
