Paul Giamatti is set to star in a series adaptation of Eli Roth’s horror franchise Hostel. The series is in development with Roth set to direct and produce.

The show is described as an “elevated thriller with Roth’s trademark kills and a modern reinvention of the horror franchise.”

The film franchise dives into the darkest corners of human depravity and sadistic pleasure. The story primarily follows unsuspecting travelers who become entangled in a sinister organization running a high-priced, clandestine operation where wealthy clients pay to torture and kill kidnapped tourists.

The first film, Hostel, introduces the terrifying concept through the harrowing experiences of American backpackers in Eastern Europe. Its sequel, Hostel: Part II, expands on the gruesome premise by exploring the fates of female victims and the twisted motivations of the elite patrons. Hostel: Part III shifts the setting to Las Vegas, offering a fresh yet equally horrifying perspective on the franchise’s core themes of exploitation and brutality.

The project is also produced by Chris Briggs, and Mike Fleiss, who worked on the films.

Giamatti is coming off his Golden Globe-winning and Oscar-nominated performance in The Holdovers. Giamatti doesn’t do a lot of horror, so it will be a treat to see him in this.
