Patty Schemel was behind the kit when Hole became one of music’s most potent forces in the ’90s. Three decades later, the Linda Lindas have stepped into the spotlight with riffs to play and a lot to say. Now for our Summer 2024 Issue, they’ve come together for an illuminating discussion about touring, artistry, and the quirks of band life as the punk quartet prepare to spend a summer in stadiums, with slots opening for Green Day, the Rolling Stones, and the Smashing Pumpkins just this season alone.
“I think the cool thing is that when you’re a kid, you have no fear,” guitarist Bela Salazar says. “We’re just getting thrown into something we’ve never seen before, so there’s no expectation.”

“I love that because when I first started playing drums, I had this sort of fearlessness,” Schemel adds. “It was a little bit over the top, sometimes, but then after a while, I came back down to Earth. You have that idea, and you’re just going to forge on through, and I love that. Don’t lose it.”
