Alan Tudyk recently appeared at the Boston Fan Expo and during a panel, he was asked about the upcoming DC animated series Creature Commandos. He explained that it is a “very good” and “moving” series.

Tudyk said: “It’s very good. It’s a group of villains and it’s like, ‘Well, how the hell do all of these people fit together?’ When he [James Gunn] asked me to do it. That’s all I saw.

“We’ve got like, Frankenstein is in there and some lady with a— she’s like a fish face, and she’s got some kind of fish tank on her head. It was like, ‘How do all—’ And then, like a robot, and the [art] seems a little bit different on each, each one has their own kind of style.

“I don’t know how all of this is gonna fit together. When I read it, it was the best thing I had read in so long, and it was moving. And that is what James Gunn does so well. I can’t wait for people to see it. I’ve now seen some of it and it looks really great.”

The series was written by James Gunn, who thinks the series is some of the best stuff he’s ever written.

Gunn previously shared: “The new series picks up directly after our Peacemaker season one finale, which leaves Waller with her hands tied operationally, meaning that she’s no longer able to get away with putting human lives on the line to carry out her clandestine morally questionable missions.

“Instead, she recruits a ragtag band of misfits, not unlike the Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.”

The filmmaker went on to say that the Creature Commandos roster is made up of “actual literal monsters, and I can’t wait for you to meet them. Creating this series has been one of the absolute joys of my life.”

The team consists of a human, a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein’s monster, and a gorgon. The voice cast includes David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Sean Gunn as Weasel and GI Robot, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, with Steve Agee reprising his role as John Economos from Peacemaker.

Creature Commandos will premiere on Max in December 2024.
