Keanu Reeves recently shared the one rule he follows while choosing roles. When the actor reflected on the beginning of his acting career, he recalled a specific rule he had followed for decades.

Keanu Reeves says he always followed this rule while selecting roles

In his latest appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Keanu Reeves promoted his upcoming Apple TV film, Outcome. During their conversation, the host brought up the actor’s early career, specifically one TV commercial.

After playing an old Kellogg’s Corn Flakes ad featuring the John Wick star, Colbert pointed out to Reeves how he appeared to really enjoy the cereal in the commercial. The actor said he indeed liked that cereal, which was one of the reasons he agreed to be in the ad. “I would never audition for something I didn’t like. Which is weird.”

The ad in question was released in 1987, when the Matrix star was still a relatively new actor. However, since then, he has built an incredible career by starring in several popular films and franchises.

Notably, Reeves had a breakthrough in acting with his role as Ted “Theodore” Logan in the 1989 buddy comedy, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. He later appeared in projects like Point Break, Speed, The Matrix franchise, Constantine, 47 Ronin, and the John Wick franchise. He even lent his voice and likeness to the video game Cyberpunk 2077, where he portrayed Johnny Silverhand.

The 61-year-old actor will next be seen as Reef Hawk in an Apple TV Original film, Outcome. It is directed by Jonah Hill, who also co-wrote the script with Ezra Woods. The rest of the cast features Hill, Martin Scorsese, Cameron Diaz, Matt Bomer, Susan Lucci, David Spade, and Ivy Wolk, among others.

It centers on Reef, a Hollywood actor who has been sober for five years, facing blackmail from a mysterious video. He then embarks on a journey of redemption, making amends with those he wronged to uncover the blackmailer.

Outcome will begin streaming on Apple TV from Friday, April 10, 2026.
