B.G. knows what it’s like to watch time pass by from behind bars, so it makes sense that he pulled up to a correctional facility in Louisiana to share some words of encouragemwnt with their current inmates.

on Friday (June 21), the Orleans Justice Center posted a clip of the former Hot Boys rapper sharing some gems that he learned during his time both inside a cell for over a decade and during his recent transition to being a free man once again

“Thanks to Christopher ‘BG’ Dorsey @new_bghollyhood for paying a visit to staff and residents in custody at the Orleans Justice Center,” they captioned the social-media post read.

“He shared words of encouragement and inspiration from his experience as both a rap icon and a formerly incarcerated person. He told residents that he is in the process of adjusting to life after incarceration and that it takes time but he is blessed to have a support network of people helping him.”

In a clip from the same post, the 43-year-old rapper could be heard telling inmates: “I could’ve made my role way less harder, y’know, than it had to be if I just would’ve listened, y’know what I’m saying? If I just would’ve listened to, y’know, what people were telling me, but I used to always think or wanted to impress my friends or, y’know, worrying about what people think about me.”

In 2012, B.G. was sentenced to 14 years behind bars after pleading guilty to two counts of possession of a firearm and one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice, stemming from a 2009 traffic stop arrest.

In September last year, U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan rejected a motion submitted by another federal prisoner, requesting to have his 14-year sentence commuted.

After months of rumors his early release that trace back to late 2022, the Louisiana native took to Instagram to let his fans know that he’d be home soon.

“After 12 winters and 13 summers, I see the end zone,” he wrote. “It’s my last #Birthday being buried alive. This year I’m celebrating the whole Virgo cycle, matter of fact, from this year forward I’m living and celebrating like everyday is #MyBIRTHDAY.”

According to TMZ, B.G. will undergo two years of supervision as part of his release conditions, including participation in drug and alcohol programs as well as life skills improvement courses.

He is also mandated to complete 400 hours of community service, comply with DNA collection and refrain from possessing firearms. In addition to continuing his rap career, he must also obtain his G.E.D. or equivalent for future job opportunities.
