Every fan of TroyBoi knows a heater is coming as soon as they hear the letters of his name spelled out in his signature vocoded tone. His new 4 ON DA FLOOR EP is no exception, surprisingly serving up a collection of house tracks guaranteed to fill dancefloors, as its title promises.
Easing fans into a new side of his ever-changing style, TroyBoi released “Dhunga” and “Híbrido” in April and May, respectively. The full EP features a pair of fresh tracks, “Viper” and “Petrunko.” While they signal a departure for the renowned trap music producer, fans can easily identify the signature sultry vibe that permeates each release in his catalog.
“Viper” blends house and reggaeton with the help of Guaynaa, a Puerto Rican rapper and singer. An energizing beat undercuts his vocals, mixing with the mirthful blaring of trumpets to deliver a track designed for packed-out dancefloors. Meanwhile, “Petrunko” is a return to form with its slower—but no less ecstatic—trap arrangement, where skittering vocals slice through whimsical sound design.
“I’m an artist who loves to experiment with multiple genres,” TroyBoi said in a press release. “This project is a moment that shows my appreciation of house/four on the floor type rhythms and showcasing it through my production.”
The new EP arrives amidst a series of high-profile sets for TroyBoi, who in 2024 has performed at Coachella and EDC Las Vegas, among other major festivals. Now on the horizon are Beyond Wonderland, EDC Orlando and a concert at Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, to name a few.
