Two years after Gordo and Drake’s collaborations became instant summertime staples in 2022, they’re showcasing more on the former’s debut album, DIAMANTE.

The culmination of over four years of work, the introspective project moonlights as a reflection of Gordo’s evolution as an artist. He famously retired his Carnage alias back in May 2022.

“[DIAMANTE is] the most emotional project I’ve worked on in my life,” Gordo said. “It features work from artists I’ve looked up to and artists who inspire me, some I’ve known for years and others I’ve met more recently.”

Gordo and Drake’s partnership has been instrumental in shaping the landscape where hip-hop meets house music. Their collaborative force was first showcased on the latter’s dance-influenced album Honestly, Nevermind, in which Gordo contributed production to six tracks.

Their synergy now continues by virtue of DIAMANTE, which features two new collaborations, “Sideways” and “Healing.” Spanning 16 tracks, the album also includes high-profile contributions from T-Pain, Leon Bridges, Maluma, Fuerza Regida and Keinemusik’s Rampa and &ME, among others.

“We’ve been friends for years but had never actually properly collaborated on music before Honestly, Nevermind,” Gordo says of his creative partnership with Drake. “To have him on my debut album speaks volumes about what people can expect on it.”

Since adopting his Gordo alias, the DJ and producer, whose real name is Diamanté Blackmon, has earned several significant accolades in short order, including a Grammy nomination and a spot atop Billboard’s “Hot 100 Producers” chart. His debut album has the feel of both a tour de force and a deeply personal breakthrough.

“This album embodies all my different tastes and personalities, from what I listen to, to what I play live, who I am as an artist, but most importantly, who Diamanté is,” he explains. “It’s my most personal work to date and comes from a place of love and authenticity.”
