Ariana and the Elder Codex Review: A Magical Metroidvania Game

I remember being so excited about watching Alien Vs. Predator when it was first released. I also remember walking out of the theaters with my friends being extremely disappointed by how bad of a movie it was.

You know what? I haven’t watched the movie since I watched it the first time, and my memory of it is so bad, that I’ll probably never revisit it again.

As you might imagine, Alien director Ridley Scott was also not a fan of the film, and he even blames it for bringing down the Alien franchise.

During a past interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Scott discussed the franchise and when talking about Alien Vs. Predator, he said:

“You get to the point when you say, ‘OK, it’s dead in the water.’ I think Alien vs. Predator was a daft idea. And I’m not sure it did very well or not, I don’t know. But it somehow brought down the beast.”

Yeah, those Alien Vs. Predator movies definitely didn’t do the franchise any favors. I think those films could’ve been good, but the stories and scripts for them were shit.

Scott went on to explain the reason why the creatures from the original film worked so well, saying: “The alien [origin concept] is uniquely attached to Mother Nature. It simply comes off a wood beetle that will lay eggs inside some unsuspecting insect.

“And in so doing, the form of the egg will become the host for this new creature. That’s hideous. But that was what it was. And you can’t keep repeating that because the joke gets boring.”

Regardless, it didn’t stop the production of many other Alien films, novels, comic books, and video games. Even with Alien: Romulus, which recently came out in theaters, it heavily continues to play with those elements.
