The new NFL season kicked off on Thursday with a thrilling start as the Baltimore Ravens faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs. While the Ravens proved to be a formidable challenger for the reigning champions, they ultimately lost 27-20. However, Baltimore fans seem more concerned about their players’ fitness than their team’s season-opening loss. With the injury-prone David Ojabo on their roster, John Harbaugh’s side faces uncertainty regarding his availability. But what is the linebacker’s current status?

Here are all the details regarding David Ojabo’s latest injury and his current physical state.

What injury did David Ojabo suffer from before the 2024 NFL season?

The 24-year-old athlete infamously suffered a partially torn ACL in his knee, which prematurely ended his 2023 campaign.

The Nigeria-born linebacker was sidelined in Week 3 of last season before deciding to undergo surgery in November. Coach John Harbaugh later confirmed that Ojabo would be out for the remainder of the season.

Ojabo had previously suffered a similar setback in 2022 when he tore his Achilles at his Michigan Pro Day, according to NBC Sports. This injury forced him to miss most of his rookie season while recovering.

Has David Ojabo returned to play with the Baltimore Ravens?

Despite initial hopes of returning, Ojabo has not played since Week 3 of the current season. He underwent season-ending ACL surgery on November 27, 2023, as confirmed by Coach John Harbaugh. Although Ojabo initially considered returning to the field, medical experts advised him to get the surgery to ensure his long-term health. Harbaugh noted that Ojabo made the right decision, prioritizing his career over the immediate season.

Ojabo finished his shortened season with six tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble (via Ravens Wire). While he will not be playing again this season, he is expected to be fully healthy by training camp in 2024. Despite his setbacks, the Ravens remain optimistic about his future, with defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald expressing confidence in Ojabo’s potential to have a great career.

In other Ravens injury news, outside linebacker Tyus Bowser is still on the reserve/non-football injury list due to a knee issue and has not yet practiced this season. The Ravens hope to have both players back in full form for the next campaign as they continue to navigate a challenging season without them.
