Netflix has revealed an awesome teaser trailer for the historical Korean action epic Uprising, which is produced and co-written by Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, Thirst) and directed by Kim Sang-man ( Midnight FM, The Tenor).
It looks like they’ve made a stunning and beautiful action movie! The story is set in the Joseon era “during a tumultuous time in the aftermath of war, take a journey through the lives of two childhood friends-turned-adversaries.
“Cheon Yeong, a slave with remarkable martial prowess; and Jong Ryeo, Cheon Yeng’s master and scion of Joseon’s most influential military family. Two friends who grew up together — one the master and one the servant — reunite post-war as enemies on opposing sides.”
Uprising “delves into themes of friendship, loyalty, and betrayal against the backdrop of societal class differences and war.”
The teaser begins with young Cheon-yeong and Jong-ryeo sharing a heartfelt friendship despite their differing social statuses — one a master, the other a slave.
Cheon-yeong hopes to “break free from servitude and reclaim his status, but their friendship deteriorates as Jong-ryeo’s family dismisses their pledge to free him.
“The chaos escalates with the onset of war, turning the friends into enemies. Cheon-yeong joins the militia, earning the fearsome nickname “the blue-robed god” for his unmatched swordsmanship, while Jong-ryeo becomes a high-ranking military officer filled with rage towards Cheon-yeong.”
The film stars Gang Dong-won as Cheon-young and Park Jeong-min as Jong-ryeo, with Kim Shin-rock, Jin Sun-kyu, Jung Sung-il, and Cha Seung-won.
Netflix will debut Uprising on October 11th, 2024.
