The third season of Netflix’s true crime anthology series Monster will feature Charlie Hunnam as serial killer Ed Gein, according to series co-creator Ryan Murphy. Hunnam is most known for essaying the role of Jax Teller in the FX series Sons of Anarchy (2008–2014). He has also portrayed the titular character in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), Raymond Smith in The Gentlemen (2020), and Kai in the Rebel Moon franchise. Now, he will be appearing in Monster Season 3.

Monster Season 3 cast adds Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein

During a promotional event for Monster Season 2, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, in Los Angeles, California, Murphy announced that Charlie Hunnam would play Ed Gein in the third season of the popular series. Season 2 premieres on Netflix on September 19, 2024.

Ed Gein was a suspected serial killer, body snatcher, and convicted murderer who was active in and around his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin, in the ’50s. In 1957, the authorities learned that Gein, who has since come to be known as the Butcher of Plainfield or the Plainfield Ghoul, dug out human remains from graves and made household items and clothing with them.

In addition, Gein confessed to murdering tavern owner Mary Hogan and hardware store owner Bernice Worden and was a suspect in multiple unsolved cases in the state. Although he was found guilty of Worden’s murder, his insanity was established in a later trial. He spent the remainder of his life in a mental health facility before dying at the Mendota Mental Health Institute in 1984. He was 77 years old at the time.

Monster premiered on Netflix on September 21, 2022, under the title Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Even though it was initially planned as a limited series, Netflix later turned it into an anthology show. As the respective titles suggest, the first season explored the story of the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer (played by Evan Peters), while the second season will focus on Lyle and Erik Menendez, siblings who killed their parents.
