In the new Hulu documentary “Child Star*, former Disney Channel alums Raven-Symoné and Demi Lovato candidly reflect on their early careers and their first meeting.
During their conversation, they reminisced about a less-than-positive experience Raven-Symoné had while guest-starring on Lovato’s show, “Sonny with a Chance,” in 2010. Lovato shared, “When we first got on the phone to talk about this project, I was like, ‘I watched you on “That’s So Raven.” Such an inspiration.’ You were like, ‘B—h, I was on your show.’ I was like, ‘Oh my god, she was.’” Lovato also revealed that during that time, she struggled with dissociation, a disorder that can lead to forgetfulness due to past trauma. “I was in so much pain and I was hurting,” she admitted.
Raven-Symoné responded, “I mean, you weren’t the nicest person. You weren’t like, ‘Welcome!’ You weren’t doing that.” She explained that, having been a child actor herself, she recognized familiar signs in Lovato’s behavior. “Being the type of person I am, I didn’t hold it against you. I just thought, ‘Something’s going on there.’”
Demi and Raven are fine. This wasn’t shady. This is a grown up conversation. In addition, Demi was dealing with many struggles at that period ( ED – Substance – R*pe – cutting ) pic.twitter.com/j2ytHYkBLl
