This week’s retro trailer is for director Robert Altman’s 1976 psychological horror thriller Images. The film dives into the fragmented mind of Cathryn, a pregnant children’s book author.
Cathryn retreats to a secluded country house with her husband Hugh, hoping to find peace and quiet to work. However, her fragile mental state begins to unravel as she experiences increasingly disturbing hallucinations.
She is haunted by visions of her dead lover, Rene, and another mysterious man, Marcel, leading her to question what is real and what is a product of her imagination. The line between reality and fantasy blurs as Cathryn’s paranoia escalates, and she becomes entangled in a nightmarish battle with her own mind.
The film is a disorienting and surreal viewing experience as Altman uses unconventional sound design, eerie visuals, and an ambiguous storyline to create a disquieting atmosphere.
