Alex Winter’s Neo-Noir Satire Comes Up Short

Hey /r/movies! I’m Chad Hartigan, director of THE THREESOME, a comedy-drama that’s out now in theaters and stars Zoey Deutch, Jonah Hauer-King, and Ruby Cruz. I’ve also directed LITTLE FISH (starring Olivia Cooke & Jack O’Connell) and MORRIS FROM AMERICA. Ask me anything!

James Cameron has a bone to pick with some of the critics out there who complain about his “cringe” dialogue.

During an interview with Empire magazine to talk about the 40th anniversary of The Terminator, he clapped back at those who sometimes complain about the cringe dialogue in his movies.

When talking about The Terminator, he said: “I don’t think of it as some Holy Grail, that’s for sure. I look at it now and there are parts of it that are pretty cringe-worthy, and parts of it that are like, ‘Yeah, we did pretty well for the resources we had available.’”

He went on to say: “I don’t cringe on any of the dialogue, but I have a lower cringe factor than, apparently, a lot of people do around the dialogue that I write.

“You know what? Let me see your three-out-of-the-four-highest-grossing films — then we’ll talk about dialogue effectiveness.”

Cameron is obviously referencing his epic box office record numbers with Avatar, the highest-grossing movie of all time with $2.9 billion, Avatar: The Way of Water, the third highest-grossing movie of all time with $2.3 billion, and Titanic, the fourth highest-grossing movie of all time with $2.2 billion.

So, he makes a good point. While some people may find his dialogue cringe at times, it has not prevented his movies from being powerhouses at the box office.
