Netflix has released the first Maria teaser trailer, previewing the upcoming drama from Pablo Larraín about legendary opera singer Maria Callas.
What happens in the Maria teaser trailer?
The teaser trailer looks back at the life of Callas, often considered one of the best vocalists of all time, as she looks back on her life. The film will chronicle the later years of Callas’ life as she tries to avoid life in the public eye.
Maria is slated to arrive in select theaters on November 27, followed by its Netflix debut on December 11. The film had its world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation.

“The film follows the American-Greek soprano as she retreats to Paris after a glamorous and tumultuous life in the public eye. Maria reimagines the legendary soprano in her final days as the diva reckons with her identity and life,” reads the official synopsis.
The film is directed by Larraín from a screenplay written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. The cast also includes Pierfrancesco Favino (The Hummingbird), Alba Rohrwacher (La Chimera), Haluk Bilginer (Winter Sleep), Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog), and Valeria Golino (Portrait of a Lady on Fire). It is produced by Juan de Dios Larraín, Lorenzo Mieli, and Jonas Dornbach. The film is a production by The Apartment, Fabula, and Komplizen & Fremantle.
