The live-action Voltron movie has started the casting process and newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye is set to take on the lead role. It doesn’t specify who exactly he’s playing. The actor is really only known for his role as kid tom in the BBC Three sitcom Badults.

Rawson Marshall Thurber, the director of Red Notice, Sky Scraper, and Central Intelligence, is set to direct the movie. He came up with the story and will alsol co-wrote the script with Ellen Shanman.

Voltron: Defender of the Universe follows five young pilots in a battalion named the Robot Lions, which are vehicles that join together to form a mega robot known as Voltron.

Together they fight against Emperor Zarkon, the cruel leader of the Galra Empire, who for over 10,000 years has been searching the universe for the Voltron lions.

Thurber and the producers “conducted a thorough search for the male and female leads, doing screen tests in early and mid-September. Quinn-Toye was one of four to make the short list for the male lead.” The female role has not been filled yet.

Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman are producing with Bob Koplar, the head of World Events Productions, the company that controls the Voltron property.

While I have no idea if Quinn-Toye is a good actor, he must’ve delivered a great audition. There’s a curious look about the actor and judging by the original animated series, it does look like he’d fit into the world.

Producing are Todd Lieberman via Hidden Pictures, World Events Productions’ Bob Koplar, Thurber, and Hobie Films’ David Hoberman.
