After two seasons and a Halloween special, it looks like Max’s adult-themed animated Scooby-Doo-inspired series Velma has been canceled.

The news was originally posted by background artist Davey Cummings on a now-deleted Instagram post, in which he said: “There will not be a Season 3, but I hope I get to work with these amazing talented people again one day.”

Max has yet to release an official statement.

Velma was an unfunny comedy series that told the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang.

This is one of those shows I’m surprised got greenlit in the first place as it was unnecessarily mean-spirited. Everyone I know who attempted to watch it hated it, and judging from the Rotten Tomatoes scores, critics and audiences also didn’t care for it.

In Velma Season 2, “When an even spookier mystery grips Crystal Cove, Velma (Kaling) must find a way to balance her detective work with the demands of her newfound popularity before it’s too late.”

Meanwhile, “her faithful friends Daphne (Constance Wu), Norville (Sam Richardson), and Fred (Glenn Howerton) are powerless to help thanks to their own personal battles and worse… Detention.”

In the Halloween special, which is titled Velma: This Halloween Needs To Be More Special!, “With just 24 hours to bring Velma back, the friends search for a dark spellbook while trying to avoid the wrath of a vengeful spirit.

“But as the annual Sexy Halloween party nears, Velma and the gang must face their biggest fears… if they all want to make it out alive.”

The series stars Mindy Kaling, Glenn Howerton, Sam Richardson, Constance Wu, Russell Peters, Sarayu Blue, Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Frank Welker, Nicole Byer, Gary Cole, Andia Winslow, Sara Ramirez, Nicholas Braun, Fortune Feimster, Jennifer Hale, Richard Kind, Jason Mantzoukas, Saweetie, Debby Ryan, and Kulap Vilaysack.

What do you think about Velma possibly being canceled?
