Real Housewives of Potomac OG Karen Huger opens up about her arrest for DUI while insisting that she doesn’t have a “drinking problem.”
Karen Huger isn’t shying away from discussing her recent run in with the law.
The Real Housewives of Potomac star has been open and honest about her DUI arrest while promoting the ninth season of the franchise.
“I woke up from it feeling so much gratitude,” the 61-year-old told E! News‘ Justin Sylvester earlier this month. “One, that no one else was involved in the accident, and, two, that I’m alive and I’m here.”
“I’m waiting for my truth to come out,” she added. “I will own it every step of the way. And I hope it doesn’t disappoint some people.”
Karen Huger encouraged Bravo fans not to compare her journey to Shannon Beador’s DUI drama, which is currently playing out on season 18 of the Real Housewives of Orange County.
“I don’t think there’s any similarity in Shannon and I,” the RHOP star stated. “But I support Shannon 100 percent.”
Meanwhile, Karen denied having a drinking problem while chatting with Extra TV about the upcoming season of RHOP.
“I don’t have a drinking problem, let’s be very clear, but all of us have accidents. So, it’s still being adjudicated, and I can’t talk about it, but I’ll say this: the girls are human, and what makes me the Grand Dame is that I’m able to see who they are in that moment. Everybody likes a little shine from the Dame, so I gave it to them,” Karen stated.
In March, the Grand Dame of Potomac was charged with driving under the influence following a car crash in Potomac, Maryland. The Bravo star has also been slapped with numerous traffic violations, including “negligent and reckless driving to driving way over the speed limit and driving with a suspended registration.”
According to police, Karen “struck a median and crosswalk sign at an intersection before continuing on and colliding with a parking sign off the roadway.”
This isn’t the first Karen has been charged with driving under the influence. Over a decade ago, long before she starred on RHOP, Karen pled guilty to “Driving While Impaired By Alcohol” and received probation.
