Kevin Smith recently announced that his 1999 religious comedy Dogma will be getting a theatrical re-release and it’s also coming to Blu-ray.

Smith says he will take a print of the film on tour next year after it was rescued from its years-long limbo, and that its new owners contacted Smith right away about making new Blu-rays, and re-releasing the movie, in 2025.

It hasn’t been revealed who acquired the rights to the movie. Smith told That Hashtag Show in a recent interview:

“The movie’s been bought away from the guy that had it for years and whatnot. The company that bought it, we met with them a couple months ago. They were like, ‘Would you be interested in re-releasing it and touring it like you do with your movies?’ I said, ‘100 percent, are you kidding me? Touring a movie that I know people like, and it’s sentimental and nostalgic? We’ll clean up.’”

Dogma was Smith’s fourth feature film, and it was a satirical fantasy comedy that explores themes of faith, religion, and morality through irreverent humor.

The story follows two fallen angels, Loki (Matt Damon) and Bartleby (Ben Affleck), who are banished from Heaven and seek to return by exploiting a loophole in Catholic dogma. If they succeed, however, they will undo all of existence.

To stop them, a group of unlikely heroes assembles, including a reluctant abortion clinic worker named Bethany (Linda Fiorentino), who is the last scion of Christ’s bloodline, and two prophets, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith).

Its controversial subject matter, especially regarding Catholicism, sparked debates but it cemented its place as a cult classic.

Are you excited to learn that Dogma is coming back to the big screen?
