Long-time Marvel Studios composer Michael Giacchino recently opened up about the theme he created for The Fantastic 4: First Steps, which debuted at D23 earlier this year.

While a guest on Brandon Davis’ YouTube show, the composers talked about what he wanted the theme to convey and it’s something he believes Marvel Studios hasn’t done before.

He explained that the theme should “have a sense of hope and optimism in a way that, quite frankly, no other Marvel movie has done yet.”

Giacchino added: “I kinda wanted this to feel like, ‘Oh, this is really just about a family that’s up against something really hard.’

“In the end, they live in this era of optimism, and hope, and discovery, and advancement in science and tech, and I thought it would be really fun to highlight that.”

I think the theme works great and definitely captures the message that he was trying to get across with it.

Giacchino isn’t only a composer, though. He’s also a filmmaker, and he directed Marvel’s Werewolf By Night Special Presentation. There are also rumors that he’s in line to direct the planned Midnight Sons movie.

Have another listen to The Fantastic 4 theme below, and let us know what you think!

The Fantastic 4 is set in the ‘60s in an alternate-reality version of New York City. The movie stars Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) as Reed Richards, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch, Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning) as Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman; and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Punisher, The Bear) as Ben Grimm, aka the Thing.

Paul Walter Houser also recently was cast in the project in an unknown role, as well as Natasha Lyonne,, and Julia Garner (Ozark, Inventing Anna), who will take on the role of Shalla-Bal, who is an incarnation of Silver Surfer. Ralph Ineson will play Galactus.

The Fantastic 4: First Steps is scheduled to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
