The Predator franchise is going to have a big year in 2025 because it turns out there aren’t one, but two Predator movies being released!
The first project is the one that we’re all familiar with, Badlands, which is being directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) and stars Elle Fanning.
The second project is a secret that was announced by 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell during a recent interview with THR.
Asbell said: “After Prey became a success, Dan [Trachtenberg] came back and said he didn’t want to do Prey 2. And we’re like, ‘What do you want to do?’ And he rattled off a bunch of ideas that were really crazy but really cool. We’ve actually done two of them.”
He then confirmed: “Two are coming out next year. One I can’t talk about yet, but the other one is the live-action Predator film with Elle Fanning that just wrapped in New Zealand.”
So, that’s interesting and cool! While I’m already excited about Badlands, I’m really curious about this second project and what it will end up being. Both of them were directed by Trachtenberg.
Badlands is set “sometime in the future,” and some possible story details were shared. The rumored logline reads:
“A groundbreaking film in which one of the two main storylines delves into the intricate bond of two very different sisters, their familial ties are put to the ultimate test as they pursue divergent paths and missions.”
On top of that, Asbell also teases a new Alien/Predator mashup movie that could happen at some point in the future, saying: “It wouldn’t be in the way you think. That’s the thing. Not in the way that it will just be called Alien vs. Predator or anything like the original movies.
“If we do this, they’ll be organically created out of these two franchises that we’ve continued with characters that we fall in love with and those characters will combine…perhaps. But we haven’t gotten to that point. And we’re not just going to bang it out.”
Badlands is set to be released on November 7, 2025. We don’t know when the other one will be released or if it will be released on streaming or in theaters.
