Kenny Omega recently appeared at NJPW Power Struggle, where he shared a major update on his return. Omega, who has been out of action since December 2023, last competed in a match against Ethan Page, who is now in WWE.
The former AEW World Champion had been actively involved in a storyline with Chris Jericho before going on hiatus. Originally, they planned to challenge then-AEW Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks and Big Bill at World Ends. However, Omega announced he was dealing with diverticulitis. This sidelined him indefinitely and led to those plans being scrapped.
Following the incident, Omega has remained absent for several months. During this time, he was fired from The Elite and replaced by his NJPW rival Kazuchika Okada. The two eventually met face to face in May when Omega made a surprise appearance on AEW Dynamite. However, the confrontation took a turn when The Elite attacked Omega, leaving him stretchered out of the show.
Since then, Omega has been absent from AEW, though his tag team partner Kota Ibushi has hinted at his return. Recently, Omega suggested that if he receives medical clearance in time, he could join forces with Tanahashi to face The Bucks at Wrestle Dynasty, a co-promoted event showcasing talent from NJPW, AEW, STARDOM, CMLL, and Ring of Honor. At his scheduled appearance at NJPW Power Struggle, Omega shared a major update on his return plans.
Kenny Omega expresses desire to make NJPW return at Wrestle Dynasty
During NJPW Power Struggle, Kenny Omega revealed his recent conversation with Hiroshi Tanahashi. He mentioned that although he is a full-time AEW roster member, he would prefer to make his comeback in an NJPW ring. He could not specify the exact return date. Nevertheless, Omega suggested Wrestle Dynasty at the Tokyo Dome on January 5th as a potential date.
Omega emphasized that New Japan remains the “King of Sport” and the best pro wrestling promotion globally, asserting that it is still his home. Following this announcement, images surfaced online showing Omega in a brawl with Gabe Kidd.
It will be quite exciting to see if Omega will face Kidd in a singles match or team up with The Young Bucks, who also announced their participation at Wrestle Dynasty. Only time will tell what unfolds.
